8 Tips For Night Time Driving

With winter comes shorter days. This means more of us are on the roads in the dark or in situations with poorer visibility.   Unfortunately accidents are more prone to occur at these times.  Here are some tips to help keep safer on the road.

  1. If in doubt slow down! Always drive to the conditions
  2. Keep your headlights and windscreen clean. Good quality wiper blades and full wiper bottles go a long way to keeping your windscreen clean.
  3. Check your lights regularly to make sure they are working. You can use the reflections in windows if you don’t have someone to help you.
  4. Your headlights should illuminate the road approximately 4 seconds ahead. If your lights are not performing as they should, ask us for recommendations on alternative globes
  5. Be extra aware of pedestrians, cyclists and motor cycles as they can be harder to spot in the dark
  6. When driving in country areas keep an eye out for animals that might be crossing the road.
  7. Don't look directly into oncoming headlights - you may be dazzled. Look at the left hand side of the road and drive well to the left. If you're dazzled, slow down or stop.
  8. Make sure your car is in safe working condition. A well maintained car is less likely to break down and can stop in a timely manner.
